Historically, Mothers' Day used to be a somber affair, it was a way for women to mourn the passing of a loved one, their fallen soldiers and find peace. However, in the early 1900s Mother’s Day became internationally recognized after Anna Jarvis, the daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis, pushed for the holiday when her mother died in 1905, she wanted a holiday that honors all the sacrifices mothers make for their children.
Today, all over the world, we continue to honor mothers, on this special day we celebrate their lives and, we recognize that being a mother is like no other job in the world. Mothers are life long workers, working not 9am-6pm but 24 hours a day. They are our carers, nannies, chefs, drivers, and sometimes even our bank accounts. Our mothers washed, fed, dressed us, and still had time to listen when we needed an ear. They cursed, shouted (sometimes threw things) but more importantly they love us for all our faults.
Mothers have done so much more for us, from our childhood through to adulthood, even when we have flown the nest, yet sometimes we forget to say thank you, we forget to give them a hug, wipe a tear, tell them how grateful we are and say we’re sorry and sometimes we forget to say, I love you.
So today let your mother know how much you care, remember a few simple words can make a life long difference.
Dear Mum, for all that you have done for me and all that you are, thank you, I love you.
To all mothers out there where ever you are, Happy Mothers' Day from all of us at Cinemagic.
